Wallets, Dinner, Boobies
Oooh so many things to blog about..
Went to the NUS Career Fair that day with Hobbit and looked around.. woah lao eh sometimes I really wonder why e heck I'm in Social Work and intending to stay in it. The pay really freaking sucks man. I'll get sth like $2.2k max with an honours degree, and after deducting CPF etc.. nothing left liao. How to survive?
I was looking at all the different companies. I mean, my friend is earning $2.6k easily as a management associate at MOE. If I sign on with the police, it's $2.9k, for civil defence, even higher: $3.2k. I figure, even if I go into MINDEF as a counsellor, i'd still earn more than being a social worker outside. Why why why?
I want money, but I also want to do social work. How??
On the same note, let me talk about reunion dinner that we had last night.
I know reunion dinner is supposed to be a nice warm and fuzzy thing, but some people just hafta make it bad. I'm not even talking about the guy who stared at me and my bro and said 'some people take all the food. reunion dinner's such a waste of time.' a couple of years ago. Thankfully he wasn't there on sunday. After all, it IS a waste of time, right?
In any case, what essentially happened yesterday really made me quite upset. It started with Ms XXX who said 'so how are u? eh i see u guys have a damn easy life rite? i see all the school counsellors in school all damn slack wan.' Woah lao i was quite upset man. She doesn't know what she's talking about. Anyway, I took my mind off that.
Half an hour later, Mr XXX (her husband) said 'Oh so u in social work arh? I see.. what are the career options available for u?'
Liren: 'well, of course a lot of social work students become social workers, but many others go into teaching, HR management, some others.....'
Before i could complete my sentence, he cut me in and said 'CEO NKF?' and then he chuckled to himself as if it was the best joke on earth.
C'mon man. I respect you altho u're a taxi driver and I don't make jokes about ur profession, so there's no need for you to insult mine.
Seriously, nobody sees the work that social workers do. It sucks. Everyone thinks we're volunteers, we just need a golden heart, or we embezzle money.
SSWS!!!! ADVOCATE!!!!!!
In any case, I presented my case politely and then stopped talking to him.

Boobies.
I've never seen so much cleavage at one go. Serious.
I was in Geylang on Saturday night. Yes, if u're wondering, I was looking for sex workers.:) Most of you would know why, but if u're one of those who don't and are totally shocked at this revelation, come ask me! I can't post details up here cos of certain legitimate reasons.
In any case, serious. These girls just lined the backlanes of Geylang. Like free one like that. All of them giving you the CFM look. Some even took liberties with the men.
What saddened me was when I passed by this hotel with the girls lined up outside, many in nothing more than practically their bra and panties. (u noe, a bra and like really really really really short shorts) The pimp just randomly shouted at anyone who passed by 'lai ah lai ah, lai kan kan lai'. If you just heard the man shouting those words without the context, u'd think he was selling durians.
In any case, it was just shitty. I don't know if I will go again. Hmm..
