Don't Waste Your Life

Life's a journey - don't forget to unpack.

Where it all meets

Perhaps then, it is at the cross of Christ that we find what we crave for most deeply in this world. Love and sacrifice, justice and mercy, faithfulness and grace. It is at the cross of Christ that all these meet, and if we dig deep enough into the core of our being, we will find that these are the things we will live and die for. - Me

To you, my reader. :)

There, look on me, so that you may not praise me beyond what I am; there, believe me, not others, about myself; there, attend to me and see what I have been in myself, through myself. - St Augustine

Life-changing BBQ (Pics added)

Yesterday we had church youths BBQ at my place. :) It was possibly the biggest event we had this year, IMHO even bigger than our CNY steamboat and sandcastle building. Bigger in the sense that we had more participants in the event, it was logistically more crazy too. We had service in the morning, and then had the ShaoEr peeps join us for games in church, and subsequently to my place for treasure-hunt-cum-station-games (which was really quite a nightmare to plan, and almost single-handedly pulled off by ChuanTin).

Besides the fact that it was also the day I turned fateful 24, yesterday was also possibly one of the turning points in the life of one of our brothers. For the sake of confidentiality, let's call him TJQ.

TJQ has been with our church for the longest time, since he was a baby, and he grew up with this bunch of peeps also known as the 87ers, of whom Lide is a part. but for TJQ, he has for the most part, been a integral part of this group, if only for the fact that he had a role in holding the group together as their common laughing-at-target. He would often make some strange point or do something weird, and the others would make fun of him, often in a derogatory manner. I've heard others of the same age or younger literally 'talk down' to him.

TJQ just graduated from O levels, and is pursuing a Diploma in Culinary Skills at Shatec. He loves cooking, and of course eating.

Yesterday, TJQ was almost instantly transformed from the 'laughing-at-target' to the star of the night. No less, he came with his WHOLE set of knives and utensils, one whole tray of ultra fresh prawns personally marinated by him (he thought the recipe up himself.. it had paprika and something he called compound butter), and best of all, his chef's uniform and hat, complete with name tag.

This foto shows u our chef. Those who know who I'm talking about already know him, those who don't can't tell from this foto. So yea, no breach of confidentiality in this case.

Throughout the night, he was giving instructions on what to cook, how to cook etc. Initially some people were quite amused by his hat and white uniform. But all that disappeared the moment we tasted the first chicken chop that came out under his watchful eye. Succulent, juicy, a bit of chao tar smell. We were totally silenced when we tasted the first prawn.

OH SO GOOD!

No one dared to laugh at TJQ last night. In fact, we were all hounding him for more prawns, more chicken chop and more steak.

TJQ is no longer the laugh-at-target. He has found his meaning, his passion, and something he can pursue. He is no longer the person who isn't good at anything. There is something he can do that the rest of us can't. That is amazing. We even had to force him to eat and take over the pit for him, cos he was so busy cooking and so serious as he stared at the flames consuming the oils on his chicken chop skin. Let's just say he was reluctant to relinquish his position even for 5 mins to eat. And he was visibly upset when he saw the chicken i cooked didn't look like it had been maximised of its taste potential.

TJQ found his meaning. His status has changed. He has something he loves and something he can pursue, much more than just DOTA every day. He's so tired from his hours at the cooking school nowadays, that he doesn't even have much time to play his computer games (that's what he told me). His life, will never be the same because of last night's BBQ.

TJQ has found his meaning.

And for that, Lord, I thank You.
