Don't Waste Your Life

Life's a journey - don't forget to unpack.

Where it all meets

Perhaps then, it is at the cross of Christ that we find what we crave for most deeply in this world. Love and sacrifice, justice and mercy, faithfulness and grace. It is at the cross of Christ that all these meet, and if we dig deep enough into the core of our being, we will find that these are the things we will live and die for. - Me

To you, my reader. :)

There, look on me, so that you may not praise me beyond what I am; there, believe me, not others, about myself; there, attend to me and see what I have been in myself, through myself. - St Augustine

Do You Feel The Heat?

It's getting hot in here.. so.. erm.. what do we do?

It's that time of the year again. I just came back from my aunt's house where we had our lunch.. each of my aunts brought a dish that they cooked best.. including the fabled Tan family assam pork. Shuang. Well apparently there was a storm being cooked up in the kitchen too with BuddhaJumpsOvertheWall (i'd suggest if we should've used this dish to help improve SOC scores in the SAF, after all, it makes even the BUDDHA jump over the wall!), fried popiah, nuggets, sausages, steamed fish, stir-fried leek with pork. And of course, no ventilation.

Well, nope I'm talking about a different kind of heat here. It's the heat that comes from the revelation that it's my year of the pig again in the Chinese zodiac calendar(the year of the pig), which means that these aunts with their amazing calculative skills start to realise that I'm 24 this year (2 rounds of 12 zodiac signs with 1 animal each year = 24years)

And with that comes the painful conversation each year with that particular aunt that goes something like that:

Aunt L: Aye!!! Happy New Year!!

Liren/ Lide: Oh Hi Aunty L. Happy New Year!

Aunt L:
good good. so what are u doing now?

Liren/ Lide: NS/ Studying in NUS.

Aunty L: Oh ok. Sooo... Got gerfan or not?

Liren/ Lide:
Er.. no....

*Conversation ends here*

Mom said to my nanny a few years ago: 'eh aunty, woah if Liren bring gerfan today u'll be very happy right?' *sweats*

It really came into sharp contrast again today when I was in the car driving my childhood friend to my place. He's a primary school classmate of mine and we visit each others' house every CNY. But this year we were in the car, and catching up on life. He shared with me that he's preparing to GET MARRIED! ouch. He's been with his partner for about 3 years now, and he's also a regular navy officer. He's a real good man, and she's a really nice girl too. In fact, they've even started looking for a flat.

It really brought things into perspective cos I realised exactly how far I am from this step. Some of my sec school and jc classmates are married too already. Sigh. Don't even get me started whining.

It's just quite sian to let things be in times like that. Seeing all my cousins ask their other halves to the family dinner and all lovey and dovey. I'm all lovey and dovey only with my darling niece Wei Wei. :)

But it's alright. These things will come in their right time. :)

It's getting hot in here.. so.. erm..
