i remember.

It was the award some people got, but nobody really wanted.

1. u got ur name stuck outside the RSM's office:

BEST SOLDIER OF THE MONTH

LCP Tan Ah Kow (XXX Dept)

2. u got your name mentioned in the CO's Conference minutes:

LCP A K Tan from XXX Dept has been nominated as BEST SOLDIER for the MONTH of July. With no other nominations from the other departments, LCP Tan receives the award by default.

3. u had to march out in front of the whole unit to collect an embarrassing award that nobody wanted.

RSM: Best Soldier of the Month, LCP Tan Ah Kow!

LCP Tan: Yes Sirrrrrrrrrrrrrr! (shoots up right hand and marches out, right foot first)

4. u got to wear a nametag for that month:

BEST SOLDIER OF THE MONTH

5. that proverbial nametag gave you the greatest privilege on earth: you didnt need to queue when you went to the cookhouse for the meals (oh, u mean we actually ate the cookhouse meals?)
