Depressed about condoms
well well.. ladies here.. be glad.. u ladies are SOOO lucky..
the women in Bangladesh (street sex workers) are in grave danger of HIV infection, yet they dun haf a choice.. cos they are too poor to go into any other profession.. many families have been in the brothels for many generations.. nobody likes a screw w an old lady.. and hence these old ladies sell their daughters into the sex trade.. all this.. just to live for another day.. one more day that we take for granted so much.
they're in danger of HIV because their clients who go screwing around refuse to wear condoms.. and if these poor women try to insist that they do.. they get beaten up or worse still, the men get more men and they all take turns raping her, or worse still.. they beat her until she dies.. after which she is just thrown into a river.
female condoms will empower these women. yet, beacuse they are not lucrative enough, nobody manufactures them, not even Durex. these female condoms cost at least $10 each.. and these women struggle to survive on $1 each day, where they need to service like dunno how many clients.. they'll never be able to protect themselves.. it seems all so hopeless.. it makes me depressed just thinking about it..
what can i do? what is MY response?
i dunno. at the heart of it all, is a problem with humanity. it goes back to the fact that we all have the roots of sin in us. until we are able to deal with this innate sinfulness, this innate selfishness where we just wnat what we want and refuse to think about others.. all these problems will findno solution. unless these men realise that they are not even treating the sex workers as humans, and truly change, these women will always be abused. at the heart of the matter, it's about love. it's not about education, or about empowerment, or even about supplies of female condoms. it's about the hearts of humanity.
unless... unless... God help us....
